Our magnesium products are created with several things in mind – one of which is keeping them as hypoallergenic as possible. In this case, that translates into keeping our products scent-free. For most people, that’s probably just fine and dandy… but if you’re anything like me, you like to have a variety of subtle, natural scents to select from depending on your mood.
For those who want to channel their inner mixologist and create a customized blend, there are a wide variety of essential oils from which to choose from ranging from sweet and spicy, to sultry and musky. There really is no end to the combinations you can make – it all depends on your olfactory preferences. If you are familiar with essential oils, then you also know that each of them can be used for specific purposes (such as lavender for relaxation). Then, of course, there are the purely for pleasure scent combinations.
Below you will find a mix of both pleasure scents as well as purposeful scents – all of which are geared towards use with our 8oz Ancient Minerals Magnesium Lotion, and our Lotion Ultra. You can certainly apply these recipes to your Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil, but since most people choose to rinse it off after 20 minutes, it seems like a bit of a waste.
These can certainly also be used with our magnesium bath flakes, as well, since soaking in a fragrant bath is absolutely divine.
Deep Breath
(10 Eucalyptus, 5 Peppermint, 5 Rosemary)
Eucalyptus: This oil has long been associated with the alleviation of respiratory issues such as asthma, bronchitis, coughs, infection, sinusitis, and more. Eucalyptus is a natural expectorant, antispasmodic, decongestant, and antiviral. Numerous OTC cough & cold drugs attempt to mimic its properties with synthetic derivatives, but can’t quite attain the same brilliant combination of benefits.
Peppermint: Although this essential oil (and the plant it’s derived from) is fabulous for digestive health, peppermint is also used for many of the same respiratory issues as eucalyptus as well as being an antispasmodic. Despite being less potent than its brother eucalyptus, this oil is still an excellent complimentary ingredient to this lung-oriented formulation.
Rosemary: Not just a savory seasoning, rosemary has numerous therapeutic applications including respiratory ailments. Sinus issues, congestion, coughing, and muscle soreness are all benefited by its use.
Delicious Warmth
(6 Cinnamon Bark, 4 Clove Bud, 8 Sweet Orange, 2 Ginger, 10 Vanilla Absolute)
Clove Bud: Clove has a plethora of applications ranging from simple toothache to nausea and diarrhea. However, it also has a warm, spicy aroma and, when placed on the skin, a pleasant heating sensation that penetrates deep into your muscles.
Cinnamon (Bark): Great for increasing circulation, suppressing coughs and alleviating symptoms of colds, cinnamon can be a fantastic winter addition. It’s dry, yet warm aroma also lends itself to a feeling of comfort and decadence.
Sweet Orange: Anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant… but also, aphrodisiac. This sweet addition to the mix has a brightening effect on the formula, yet has a sedative quality that is able to relax the body.
Ginger: The stimulating effect of ginger can help with fatigue and exhaustion while it’s warming properties help increase circulation and ward off chills, among numerous other benefits.
Vanilla: Rich, sensual, sweet and light, vanilla is a very mild undertone to this formula that adds a deliciously elusive note.
Sit Back & Relax
(8 Lavender, 5 Mandarin, 4 Geranium, 5 Chamomile, 4 Marjoram)
Chamomile: Although there are several different types of chamomile to select from, across the board chamomile has long been used for destressing, relaxation, muscle pain & spasms, headache and other tension related issues. Blue chamomile has the highest content of azulene, which is the active compound, and bears a blue color.
Lavender: Possibly the most well-known essential oil related to relaxation, lavender possesses numerous beneficial abilities that relate to this attribute. Insomnia, migraine, nervous tension, depression, stress, indigestion and anxiety have all seen relief with the use of lavender.
Mandarin: Fruity, sweet and vibrant notes of mandarin are not just excellent for destressing, but also have hypnotic and sedative qualities that can be used to enhance this formula focused on relieving the built up stresses of the day.
Geranium: Surprisingly, this essential oil has been known to have emotional stabilizing abilities on top of its antidepressant qualities. Both of those, combined with its heavy, slightly floral notes make this a perfect addition.
Marjoram: Another citrusy scent but with pine-like undertones, marjoram is used for muscle aches, pains, stiffness, and cramping, while also staying with the theme of being a relaxing agent. This is considered a comforting herb meant to soothe anxiety, nervousness and other heightened emotional states.
